Who could have ever imagined that the bottom two teams’s of last year’s IPL would be playing the final this year! After the Deccan Chargers from Hyderabad crushed the Delhi Daredevils yesterday, today was the turn of the Royal Challengers of Bangalore to overpower the favourites Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni’s men in yellow were widely tipped to be the favourites, what with Hayden and Raina in such great form and a bowler like Muralitharan in the ranks, and of course, Dhoni at the helm. But Anil Kumble had other plans – ever since he took over from Pietersen, he has turned the fortunes of his team around – 7 out of 9 wins so far. 8 out of 10 would be just perfect!

On paper I think the Deccan Chargers have the edge, largely thanks to the explosive line-up of batting stars they have. But my gut feel is that the Royal Challengers will take home the IPL 2009 title. Ideally I would like to see Rahul Dravid finish off with the man of the match award. To then think that both Dravid and Kumble don’t feature in India’s T20 World Cup propsects is funny. But let’s wait for tomorrow before that. IPL 2nd Semi Final | Royal Challengers vs Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2009 Season | 2nd Semi Final Match | Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings | Date: 23rd May 2009 | Venue: Johannesburg | Watch the 2nd Semi Final match of IPL 2009 Live on TV on the channel Sony Set Max | For Free Live Cricket Streaming of the match refer to the official website of the IPL. Please note that this blog doesn’t webcast any live streaming cricket action.

The 1st Semi Final today between the Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils was a bit of an anti-climax after the series of close matches before. Delhi posted a decent total but Adam Gilchrist made such a mockery of it that the match was over much before it should have. 22 runs came off the first over and even though Herschelle Gibbs threw away his wicket immediately after, the runs never stopped coming. After Gilchrist went, Symonds joined the party with some quick runs immediately and when the required run rate drops to 5 per over in a Twenty20 match you can be assured that the bowling side doesn’t stand much of a chance thereafter.

Tomorrow, Chennai Super Kings are the bookie’s favourite based on their form so far and the fact that M S Dhoni is their captain makes them an even more formidable competition. But the Royal Challengers Bangalore have surprised many with the way they have reached the semi final quietly. After a string of early losses when Pietersen was at the helm, the team really came into its own under Anil Kumble. They have a solid batting line-up which is capable of both scoring quick runs as well as throwing an anchor, if the need arises.

I would be supporting the Bangalore team, and I think they have a better chance to win the semi against Chennai if they batted second. For, if they restrict the Chennai team to a score of about 140-145, then they have the solidity in their line-up which will manage the target without creating much of a fuss. Let’s see how it goes on the morrow. Watch the live streaming of the match live from 8:00 pm tomorrow evening to find out how the match unfolds, and who finally faces the Deccan Chargers in the final on Sunday.

IPL | Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders

IPL 2009 Season | Match: Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders | Date: 18th May 2009 | Venue: Centurion | Live Teleacast of the match from 8:00 pm on tv on the channel Sony Set Max | For Live Cricket Streaming of the match refer to the official website of the Indian Premier League. Chennai Super Kings will take the field in a much more relaxed state of mind having already assured themselves of a place in the semi-finals. No wonder then that they have rested their star batsman Matthew Hayden. Not that Kolkata will be under much pressure having assured themselves of seats on a plane back home before the semi-finals. However, knowing Dhoni, you can be assured that his team won’t be complacent in the least.

Watch the live streaming of the match as it starts at 8:00 pm today to find out what exactly happens at Centurion – can Kolkata win a second match finally?
