Bangladesh won the toss yesterday and elected to field, and didn’t have much to cheer about at the close of play on Day 1. England amassed 362 for the loss of just 4 wickets. No.3 Jonathan Trott trotted up a fine hundred and remained unbeaten on 175 at stumps, and will look to complete his double century when play begins later today at Lord’s.
What Bangladesh can take solace from is that they managed to dismiss Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell quite cheaply. At the moment Eoin Morgan is giving company to Trott.
England would be looking to reach a figure of no less than 550, and then hope to win the match without needing to bat again, or if they decide not to enforce a follow-on, may be bat for a couple of hours or so. Bangladesh, on the other hand, would have two objectives – dismiss England as quickly as possible, and slow down the scoring so that they have the minimum batting time.
