The ICC World Twenty20 2010 is yet to begin, and we have already seen a couple of upsets in the warm-up matches. The inaugural match of the tournament will be played tonight – Sri Lanka vs New Zealand in Guyana. Sri Lanka were the finalist in the 2009 World Cup and are a very good T20 side. But from what we have seen of the pitches so far in the West Indies, they may just suit New Zealand.
The Kiwis are always a dangerous side in any big tournament. They have a very good track record in most of the big cricket tournaments whether it is the 50 over ones or the 20 overs ones. In Daniel Vettori they have a thinking captain and a very good slow bowler. Brendon McCullum is a destructive wicket-keeper batsman. Also in the side is Ross Taylor who we have already seen in the IPL is capable of turing around a match in a few balls.
For Sri Lanka, the big worry would be Dilshan’s form. He was the hero of the 2009 T20 World Cup, but he failed miserably in the IPL 2010. They would be really hoping that Dilshan comes good again.
Overall, it is expected to be a tight game. So don’t miss the live cricket action, wherever you are.
