A double hundred by Aussie captain Rickey Ponting and 166 by Michael Clarke – the two added 352 runs for the 4th wicket – took Australia to a mammoth 1st innings socre of 519, the score at which Ponting declared. Pakistan started well in their chase reaching 63 without loss but then a surfeit of wickets took them to 94/4. Captain Mohammad Yousuf and wicket-keeper Umar Akmal were both run out unfortunately.

When the play begins on day 3 tomorrow, it will be an uphill task for the Pakistani batsmen who require more than 200 runs further to avoid a follow-on situation. A loss here would mean a 0-3 humiliation for Pakistan, and that would especially hurt after the way in which they loss at Sydney.
