While South Africa will begin their T20 Cup campaign today, it might be the end of the Scottish campaign. Having lost to New Zealand yesterday, the Scots are in an eliminiation game today, and unless they can upset one of the two cup favourites, they will soon begin their short journey back home. However, as we have repeatedly said in the past few blog posts, the Proteas would be silly to consider it an easy match. Only yesterday, Scotland who had been completely written off managed to scare New Zealand scoring at an average of almost 13 runs per over and had they held onto a couple of chances offered by the Kiwis, the match could have gone either way.

That said, South Africa have a very strong and well-balanced squad and besides India, are the other strong championship contenders. In Smith they have an astute captain and a strong bat. Duminy is in good form. Kallis just showed in the IPL why he can be a very good T20 player as well. In Boucher they have an experienced keeper and a good finisher. The bowling is strong and should be able to exploit the English conditions well. All in all, I don’t see the Scots scaring the South Africans unless it is another rain-truncated match. However, I would not be so sure thanks to the vagaries of T20 cricket and would rather watch the live streaming of the match this evening to find out what actually transpires at Oval.
