When you play a DVD on your DVD player, what you get to see on your TV or Desktop is coming from ‘memory or information’ already existing in full in the DVD storage. While your DVD player is constanting pulling live ‘information’ from the DVD, the DVD itself is not doing any such thing. In the case of ‘Live Streaming’ multimedia things are different in this area – Your Live Streaming Multimedia provider is doing both – while, like the DVD it is sending ’streaming’ content constantly, it is also receiving ‘live’ multimedia content from another source. Streaming roughly means ‘delivering media’.

So what did we learn?

A media stream can either be:

1)On Demand – as and when there is a request from the end user, like in the case of your DVD player. So whenever you feel like watching a movie, you ‘demand’ a media stream.

2) Or it can be a “Live Stream” – Live Streams are available and can be transmitted only at a particular point of time. So you can watch Live Cricket Streaming of an India – England cricket match when the match is being played somewhere.
